Samantha Jones

Most of the following information was sent to me by researchers  Mary Ann Niswanger   and  Linda Jones .

           Samantha Jones ⁴ ( Hiram Jones ³, George Jones ², William Jones ¹ )  was born March 26, 1895* in Arkansas. She died January 17, 1973 in Poinsett County Arkansas, buried Bolivar Cemetery, in or near Harrisburg.  She married ¹Lee Roy Hancock, March 31, 1912, in Izard County Arkansas.  He was born October 15, 1892 in  Mississippi.  He died April 29, 1968 in Harrisburg, Poinsett County Arkansas, buried Bolivar Cemetery, in or near Harrisburg.  He  was the son of Allen Beadeford Hancock and Nancy Hancock.

Children of Lee Roy Hancock and Samantha Jones are:

                i.        Verbia Nancy Hancock., born 18 July  1914  in Arkansas;  died   May 18, 1988
                           in Decatur , Macon County Illinois.  She married Aca C. Hutchins

               ii.       Ada Hancock , born 1915 in  Arkansas;  died  1995 (?).  She married Boyd  Wriley.

              iii.       Edna  Hancock ,  born 1916 in Arkansas.   She married Millard Martin Rodney.

               iv.       Elsie Elizabeth Hancock ,  born September 15, 1922 in Oklahoma.  She
                           married (1) Ernie Strout  (2)  Walter Poff.

                v.      Floyd Thomas Hancock ,  born October 15, 1925 in Arkansas.  He married Lora
                          Jean Deckelman.

              vi.       Dollie Ruth Hancock,  born 1928 in Arkansas;  died  1942  in a house fire.

             vii.       Allen Rubon Hancock , born  September 28, 1931  in Arkansas;  died
                          November 18,  1980 in Arkansas.   He married Lillian L. Guest.

              ix.      Joyce Mae Hancock, born July 16, 1935 in Arkansas.  She married (1) Carl Presley
                        (2) Raymond Eugene "Gene"  French.

              x.       R. D. Hancock,   infant, born and died  1938.

^{1 "} They  were married in Izard County Arkansas,  March 31,  1912  by Geo. W. Newson, J.P.   #523--   this info came from a microfilm  from  the Mormon History Center......# 1290025"

"At this time (1920) there was an oil boom in OK so Roy, his father and his brother  were there for a while and worked in the oil field... but were back in Arkansas  by 1930.  They lived in Craighead County Arkansas in 1933 because Roy's  father, Allen, was living with Roy and his family when he died in 1933.......Then they moved to Harrisburg,  Poinsett County Arkansas,  and they are both buried in the Bolivar Cemetery in or near Harrisburg in Poinsett County Arkansas."

*  The 1900 Census Record show her birth date as April 1898, but the SS Death Index show it as March 25, 1895.
A descendant, Reta Gail, states that her birth record shows  March 26, 1895.
